An Easter Event Serving Youth At-Risk for and Impacted by Substance Use
The goal of this event is to engage youth residing in communities around Brown's Park so that they may experience the love of their community and discover opportunities that may improve their current and future quality of life. Through new community norms that respond to the needs of our youth we strive to provide four community events each year over the next several years. We will deliver only evidence-based practices recommended by of national affiliate organizations:

WHY WE NEED YOU
Our world in Atlantic City is either going to plummet or prosper depending on how much we heed the advisement of the best minds around the country. These minds reinforce what Frederick Douglass said many years ago: "It is easier to build strong children than it is to fix broken men". Our community has its share of broken men and women and enough evidence to show that a change in how we prevent this from happening is in order. We represent this movement of change and it simply targets relief to children who are most at risk of developing substance use and/or mental health disorders. Until now, prevention efforts were to the youth population at large with no strategy to reach those among them that were at highest risk.

Our approach is one that aligns with communities where environmental risks of addiction are present, including high rates of poverty, crime, access to substances, probability of witnessing someone under the influence and general acceptance of alcohol and substance use, The children residing in communities surrounding Brown's Park are at higher risk of becoming addicted than average communities. Therefore, these are the communities that we will work with . Research also tells us that those with biological parents who are addicted show even greater risks than others within the high risk population and those most at-risk are those living with parental addiction.

We have expertise in building protective factors in the lives of the most at-risk in our community and embrace this approach because it makes sense and it works. We know how to stop the spiral of youth while the situation may be improved and this changes the outcomes. We simply will follow the lead of our national affiliates and bring change home to Atlantic City.

We are a 100% volunteer organization with no paid staff. We have dedicated our time and efforts to this cause as a way of making a positive contribution to our community. We engage the affected youth through appealing events that give us the opportunity to offset the adverse childhood experiences they may have had with positive encounters that off set them. We will have a minimum of four events each year to reinforce our work and create links to healthy organizations as well.
