EVENT THEME
Preventing Overdose is the goal of overdose awareness and each life that takes a pathway to recovery avoids the potential for overdose. However, a horrible stigma keeps many from entering or staying on such a pathway and as a community we must rally behind recovery and do all we can to make it an appealing choice, We can begin by standing up for recovery starting at the top. Standing Up means affording dignity and respect to people with substance use disorders and encouraging their pursuit of health and happiness. Adopting a Bill of Rights for Recovery is Standing Up. This view of who we are also extends dignity and respect to people and families who have lost a loved one and sharing in their remembrance is an act of standing up. We must go beyond standing for and begin standing up for suffering to end.

Atlantic County has led the nation for years in per capita overdose deaths and this year's program invites almost 50 local elected officials and candidates for office to join this event and Stand Up for Recovery and extend respect to the people whose lives have been lost.

The program includes sharing of experiences of families impacted, presentation of the 2020 Recovery Community Award, Roll Call of Invited Officials, Recovery Bill of Rights Pledge and a Candlelight Vigil and Remembrance of Overdose Victims.

The recipient of the 2020 Recovery Community Award is Susan Long, Angels in Motion Atlantic City chapter founder and Executive Director.
